Study of Aerated Lightweight Mortar Using Aluminium Powder and Local Materials

Conventional burnt clay bricks are still mostly used as building materials for both load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls in Nepal. The use of brick not only increases the dead loads on structures but also becomes main cause casualties during earthquake. This paper describes development an alternative lightweight mortar using aluminium powder to replace bricks. base mixture was experimentally determined properties were studied with ranging content by weight cement. result showed a decrease density compressive strength increase water absorption while increasing content. possible about 52% 0.9% powder. very less from 0.6% 0.9%. 28-day decreased 59% 63% at respectively. With achievement than 1000 kg/m3 more 7.5 MPa, optimum 0.6%. implementation this implies producing bricks, blocks panels replacing It lightens avoids big earthquakes saves environment minimizing carbon-di-oxide, degrading agricultural soils even minimizes risk climate change.
